A half pint pewter tankard engraved with 'St Georges 1950', but with a red glass base engraved 1951 with the Festival of Britain logo. The Festival of Britain was a national festival over the summer of 1951, celebrating the successful recovery from the devastation of the Second World War, as well as promoting British science, technology, industrial design, architecture and the arts. It also commemorated the Great Exhibition of 1851. Many events and exhibitions were held around the country. The main site for the Festival was on the Southbank, London. Afterwards, the site was developed further over the next thirty years to become the South Bank Centre, which comprises the Royal Festival Hall, the National Theatre, the National Film Theatre, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room.
