During the Victorian period, Windsor and the Borough was frequently flooded; the result of severe weather and ineffective river management. Indeed, for those living in the Borough floods were almost an annual occurrence, but the people back then were able to cope with them as a matter of routine. Within the confines of this photograph, for example, you will see that two ladies and their French Bulldog have artfully managed to escape the flood water by travelling down Datchet High Street in a canoe.
