Image Requests
If you wish to apply for licencing for an image from the museum collection, or have any other enquiry regarding images or image photography of the museum collections, please email museum@rbwm.gov.uk and please include ‘IMAGE REQUEST’ in the subject heading.
In the email (or as an attachment) we will need the following details –
- Name
- Email address
- Contact telephone number
- What will the image be used for? (e.g. publication. exhibition. presentation)
Please note : The museum ideally requires at least one month to consider image requests but reserves the right for the processing of requests to take less time or longer to fit around the priorities and commitments of the museum service.
Below is a list of our charges from 2022-2025.

Please note: prices are on the basis of supply of a digital image as an email attachment. Hard copy prints or images on disc can be provided, but the customer will be expected to cover the costs of hardware and postage.

Customers must complete an order form specifying the required format.
Windsor & Royal Borough Museum aim, where possible, to supply images of documents, photographs and books held in its collections, in one or more of the following formats: digital image, print-out, photocopy or photographic print.
Where documents cannot be scanned, photocopied, or photographed in house, staff may arrange for photography to be undertaken by a professional photographer at the customer’s expense (prices subject to professional photographer’s fees).
Digital photography for research purposes may be undertaken by researchers consulting documents. Price available on request via museum@rbwm.gov.uk.
Digital images are generally supplied at 300 dpi. New photography may have to be undertaken by a professional photographer at the customer’s expense if higher resolution images are required.
Digital images will be delivered by email. Hard copy prints or images on disc can be provided and may be sent by post or collected in person; the customer is expected to cover the cost of materials and postage.
We cannot supply an image or issue a licence to reproduce it unless we have full details of your intended use.
Charges are set to reflect costs incurred by the museum in processing and administering photographic orders and in line with charges set by archives and museums. Current charges were set in 2022 and will be reviewed in 2025.
Images supplied for research and private use will be subject to charges payable in advance. They must not be reproduced for broadcast, publication or commercial use without prior permission from Windsor & Royal Borough Museum and payment of licence fees.
Images supplied for broadcast, publication or commercial use will incur licence fees in addition to the standard image supply charges. Permission to reproduce must be obtained from Windsor & Royal Borough Museum and licence fees paid prior to broadcast or publication.
A fee is payable each time the item is reproduced.

Unless you are advised otherwise, all images are ©Windsor & Royal Borough Museum and are only reproduced by their permission.
If the declaration is false regarding the copyright in a material supplied by Windsor & Royal Borough Museum, you will be liable for infringement of copyright as if you had made the copy yourself.
