Depicting a scene from Act 3, Scene 1 of the Shakespeare comedy 'The Merry Wives of Windsor.' an image of the castle can be seen in the background. It is said that Shakespeare took his inspiration for the play from a visit to Windsor. People's names and places from Windsor can be found in the play. there are no impressions on the paper from a printing press so it is likely that this is not an original print but a later copy. the print is believed to have come from an edition of 'the complete works of Shakespeare' which contained illustrations by Kenny Meadows, Frith, Nicholson Corbould, Hayter and others. the original date for the print given a date of 1854 when the Museum first received it but after some further research, the Curator changed it to 1870.Measurements: 196 x 250
